A foot massage loosens the feet and lower legs with long strokes and kneading. Reflexology is slower and more exact, point by point.
Book a foot massageReflexology is steady pressure on the feet, by hand, following a map of the body.
The map divides the two feet into ten zones, five on each foot, one for each toe. On the traditional chart, each part of the foot stands for a part of the body:
Working on the feet is an old idea in many cultures. The modern map is about a century old: Dr. William Fitzgerald described body zones in 1917, and Eunice Ingham mapped them onto the feet in the 1930s.
A foot massage loosens the feet and lower legs with long strokes and kneading. Reflexology is slower and more exact: pressure point by point, with the thumbs and fingers, following the map.
Your shoes and socks come off, you stay dressed, and you sit back in the recliner. I work one foot and then the other, from the toes down to the heel.
It should feel firm, not painful, though some spots can feel tender. Firm or gentle: you say, and I change it. You can stop at any time.
Anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours. If it’s your first time, 60 minutes is a good start.
No. Reflexology doesn’t diagnose or treat illness, and it doesn’t replace your doctor. If you’re pregnant, or have a foot injury or a health condition, tell me first and check with your doctor.
